Notahop

Read music notes, one note at a time

Hop the frog shows a note on the staff. You tap its name and hear it played by your own instrument. Calm sight reading practice for treble, bass and alto clef, with no clock and no ads.

Coming soon to the App Store

Free for iPhone and iPad: two rounds that refill every 3 hours.

How a round goes

  1. Pick your instrument

Tell Notahop what you play and it reads your clef. A short placement round at the start finds your level, so you never begin from scratch.

  2. Name the note

Ten notes a round. Tap the name and hear the note from a real recording of your instrument.

  3. Missed it? Keep going

The right key lights up, you tap it and move on. Notes you miss come back in later rounds until they stick.

  4. Climb the lily pads

Five levels per clef, from the lower half of the staff up to three ledger lines. Points, combos and up to three stars a round.

Made for real sight reading

No clock, ever

Questions

Is Notahop free, or is everything behind a paywall?

It's free to play. You get two rounds, and they refill every 3 hours. Every clef, every level, the ranks and all of Hop's outfits are in the free game. Notahop Unlimited only takes away the wait between rounds.

Is there a timer?

No. No round has a clock, so beginners and slow readers can take their time on every note. When you miss one, the right key lights up and you simply go on.

Can I practise bass clef or alto clef for free, or only treble?

All three are free. The clef follows your instrument: piano gives you treble and bass, viola gives you alto, cello, trombone and bass guitar give you bass. You can change your instrument any time in Me.

Does it play the notes?

Yes. Every note you answer is played from a real recording of your instrument (University of Iowa Musical Instrument Samples): piano, guitar, violin, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, viola, cello or bass guitar. Singers hear the piano. The silent switch and the Sounds switch in Me turn it off.

Are there ads, or do I need an account?

No ads and no account. Your progress stays on your device. If you play on the ranks, they only see the nickname you type, your country and your points.
