Notahop is a game for learning to read music notes. Notahop is made by JCOM LLC, 1309 Coffeen Avenue STE 1200, Sheridan, Wyoming 82801, United States ("we", "us"), which is the data controller for any personal data described in this policy. The short version: there is no account and no ads, your progress stays on your device, and the world ranks only ever see a nickname you type, a country and points.
What the app stores on your device
- Your progress (points, player level, the level for each clef, which notes you read right or wrong, days in a row, outfits) and your settings (instrument, note names, sounds, haptics, appearance) are stored only on your device, in the app's private storage. Deleting the app deletes them.
- Free-round counter. The time of your last free round is stored on the device, so the app knows when your free rounds refill. It contains no personal data.
- The app never asks for your name, email address, photos, contacts, location, camera or microphone. Notes are answered by tapping; nothing is recorded or listened to.
World ranks
Notahop has world ranks (Today and This week) and a Countries Cup. To make them work, the app sends the following to our own server (notahop.app), run by JCOM LLC:
- a random player ID created on the device (not linked to the device, your Apple Account or any person; the server stores only a scrambled version of it);
- the nickname you type (2 to 16 letters or digits), if you choose one. It should not be your real name. Each new nickname is checked against word lists and by an automated moderation service before anyone else sees it (only the nickname is sent to OpenRouter, Inc. for this check), and we may remove any nickname that looks like a real name, contains contact details or is rude. Until a nickname is accepted, other players see "Player";
- the outfit Hop is wearing;
- your points: the points and time of the day's best round, the day's Countries Cup points (from your first 10 rounds of the day) and the number of days played in a row;
- a country, shown as a flag. The server takes it from the country our network provider (Cloudflare) reports for the connection, or from the device's region setting when that is unknown. The IP address itself is never stored.
Other players see only the nickname (or "Player"), flag, outfit, points and days in a row. There is no chat and there are no messages between players.
Turning it off. Switch off "Show me on the ranks" in Me: this removes your rounds and your nickname from our server, and no more rounds are sent while it is off. Daily ranks data is deleted automatically after 40 days.
What else we collect
- Anonymous usage statistics and crash reports. To understand which features are used and to fix crashes and freezes, the app sends anonymous events and crash and freeze reports to our own server (telemetry.jcom.llc), run by JCOM LLC. Events look like "round finished" (with how many notes were right), "setup finished" (with the instrument and note names you picked) or "paywall viewed"; they never contain your nickname. They carry a random install ID, the device model, the app and iOS version, the language and the App Store country, and no name, account, or nickname. When a crash report arrives, the server also records the IP address it came from and the country derived from it, to find problems that affect a region; this is kept only as long as needed to fix the crash. We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting services.
- Purchases. Subscriptions and one-time purchases are handled by Apple. To check that a purchase is active, the app uses RevenueCat, a service that receives Apple's purchase receipt together with an anonymous app user ID and basic device information. Neither we nor RevenueCat receive your name, email or payment details. Manage or cancel in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions.
- Email. If you write to us, we keep your message to answer it. We don't add you to any list.
What we don't do
- No ads, no ad tracking, no selling or sharing of data with data brokers. The app does not ask for permission to track you.
- No account. Nothing to sign up for, nothing to log in to.
- No location, camera, microphone or contacts access.
Your choices
- Switch off "Show me on the ranks" in Me to remove your rounds and your nickname from our server.
- Delete everything on the device by deleting the app.
- Crash and freeze reports reach us only if "Share With App Developers" is on in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements; you can turn it off there at any time. The anonymous usage events described above contain no personal data.
Your rights
Your progress never leaves your device, so we hold very little about you: a scrambled player ID with points, a nickname if you chose one, and anonymous usage data. Where a law such as the GDPR (EU/UK) or the CCPA (California) gives you rights to access, correct, delete or port personal data, or to object to its processing, you can exercise them by emailing us. We do not sell or share personal data as defined by the CCPA. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Data retention and security
Daily ranks data is kept for 40 days, and is removed earlier when you switch off "Show me on the ranks". Anonymous usage and crash data is kept only as long as needed to understand and fix problems. Email you send us is kept as long as needed to answer it. Data on your device is protected by iOS device encryption and is never transmitted to us. Our server is reached only over encrypted connections.
Children
Notahop is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top and, for meaningful changes, mention it in the app's release notes.
